Department Summary
Roche is the world’s largest biotech company, with truly differentiated medicines in oncology, immunology, infectious diseases, ophthalmology and diseases of the central nervous system. RDS is also the world leader in in vitro diagnostics and tissue-based cancer diagnostics, and a frontrunner in diabetes management. The Sequencing Software Chapter is dedicated to the design, development, and maintenance of high-impact software solutions that power the next generation of sequencing. Our focus is dual-faceted:

IVD Development: Building regulated, clinical-grade software for in vitro diagnostic platforms that enable healthcare providers to make life-critical treatment decisions with confidence.

Internal Diagnostics Lab Support: Developing sophisticated informatics tools and pipelines for internal diagnostic labs, streamlining the journey from raw biological sample to actionable data.
This internship position is located in Santa Clara, on-site.
The Opportunity

Design, write, modify, test, and debug software applications. Write maintainable, reliable, reusable, secure, performant code.

Participate in design and code reviews to ensure adherence to architecture, coding standards and best practices.

Contribute to project documentation, including design specifications, and technical documentation.
Program Highlights

Intensive 12-weeks, full-time (40 hours per week) paid internship.

Program start dates are in May/June 2026.

A stipend, based on location, will be provided to help alleviate costs associated with the internship.

Ownership of challenging and impactful business-critical projects.

Who You Are
Required Education
You meet one of the following criteria:
-
Must be pursuing or have attained an Associate's Degree.
-
Must be pursuing a Bachelor's Degree (enrolled student).
Required Majors: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Math, or related discipline.
Required Skills:
-
Proficient in Java.
-
Experience with micro-services architecture, messaging, multi-threading.

Familiarity with database management using Postgres or other relational database.

Knowledge of testing tools and frameworks, including Junit, Test NG, Mockito.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Qualifications

Experience with back-end framework such as Spring, Spring Boot.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills

The expected salary for this position based on the primary location of California is**$45.00 per hour.**Actual pay will be determined based on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors permitted by law. This position also qualifies for paid holiday time off benefits.
